Face Sponges – the new skin care routine

We like to optimise our skincare routine from time to time. The easiest way to do so is, to find either a new tool, or replace an essential step of our routine.
I found the biodegradable sponges by the KONJAC SPONGE COMPANY . They are a practical way to bring a new layer of skin cleansing to our routine: They exfoliate and clean skin and are infused with skin caring ingredients. I asked Michele Riley, the founder of the KONJAC SPONGE COMPANY why we need to incorporate these little sponges into our beauty routine now.

IRMA: Why sponges?
MICHELE RILEY: We are massive fans of beauty tools for a reason. The idea of a sponge that cleanses, exfoliates and refines the skin, for us, was a no-brainer. The sponge works as an alternative to a flannel or a muslin cloth. The texture of the sponge gently exfoliates, works with or without cleanser (if you choose to use a cleanser, you require less cleanser as the sponge makes the cleanser work harder and go further) and help lift all the dead skin cells, stimulate the blood flow to the surface of the skin and leaves the skin revitalized and rejuvenated too. Our original Konjac sponges are a biodegradable and compostable cleansing aid which is good for the skin, and good for the environment.

IRMA: What makes your sponges so special?
MICHELE RILEY: Our sponges have a unique cellular structure thanks to our secret patented process, this along with their pure and natural ingredients (Just konjac fibre and their relevant clay etc) makes them so effective! They have a net-like structure that buffs away dead skin cells on the surface of the skin without over stripping the skin of its natural oils. This gives for a unique, gentle yet effective daily cleanse. We also stay true to our word on quality, ingredients and ethics.
The sponges can also be used around the delicate eye area. This is an area that tends to show how we feel and lets us down when we look overtired or run down. But the sponge cleanses and exfoliates this delicate area, making our faces look even more alive and vibrant and helping drain away any puffiness in eye bags.

IRMA: Which sponge would you gift your friend as a „starter sponge“, and why?
MICHELE RILEY: All of our sponges are suitable for first-timers, they’re so easy to use and can complement every skincare routine! However, the Pink Clay Heart sponge is a favourite of mine when it comes to gifting; the heart shape is ergonomically designed as well as being super cute, and the Pink Clay is great for all skin types! We would always suggest choosing a sponge that works for all skin types or won’t offend! So, though the Bamboo Charcoal sponge tends to be our best-seller, we would not necessarily say it’s the best gifting one, as it is aimed at more problematic or oilier skin types. The Pink Clay, 100% pure puff or the mini sponges make the perfect gift as they are not aimed at specific skin issues.

IRMA: What is your next product in planning?
MICHELE RILEY: We’re in the process of reducing our plastics and plan on becoming a plastic-free brand in the very near future, we’re currently working on a new range of face and body sponges. We will be adding new ingredients such as bamboo extract, yellow clay and aloe vera. Watch this space!
