Last year we presented our collection of painted handcrafted baskets made in Portugal. The illustration artist Jasmin Khezri painted them with black paint. Some of them had custom straps or a lining made of La Maison Pierre Frey fabric.
We made them in different sizes and shapes and are pleased that the French fashion house Celine has selected one of our favourite German artists André Butzer for this year’s artist collaboration. André Butzer’s character “Wanderer” (2001) was taken from his sketchbooks, lithographs and linoleum prints and transferred to a classic Celine basket.
Other companies are also looking for artisan talent for their signature baskets and bags, such as the Spanish house Loewe, which was one of the first. The brand challenged traditional artists from all over the world to work with a new medium: leather. Traditional basket makers, who share a deep knowledge of their disciplines, bring their own distinctive style to the project. These masters of craftsmanship have designed a range of exclusive art objects and accessories.
