The Upcycled Hermès Scarf

When Rosa Maria Deymann closed the doors to her iconic concept store in Bad Tölz, it marked not an end but a bold new chapter in her fashion journey. Known for her audacious taste—she was among the first in Germany to stock Miu Miu and Prada in the early ’90s—Rosa Maria has always had an eye for the extraordinary. Her personal style, a seamless blend of timeless elegance and creative flair, has now found a new expression.

In her atelier in Bad Tölz, Rosa Maria and her team of skilled tailors breathe new life into vintage Hermès silk scarves, transforming them into exquisite jackets, skirts, and shirts. This season, her artistry will take center stage at the IRMA Christmas Market, held on December 6th and 7th at the Rosewood Munich.

IRMA: Your life has revolved around fashion. Can you tell us how it all began?
Rosa Maria Deymann: My love for fashion began with my mother, who inspired me from a young age. Even as a schoolgirl, I had a knack for making something unique out of the clothes in my wardrobe. My mother often said, “You always make everything your own!”

In the early 1980s, she was a devoted customer of Rena Lange’s prêt-à-porter collection, and through her, I encountered the works of designers like Yves Saint Laurent, Kenzo, and Gaultier. Those early impressions left an indelible mark on me.

IRMA: You were one of the first to introduce MIU MIU in Germany. What drew you to the brand?
Rosa Maria Deymann: It was the early ’90s, and we were already working with Prada for our boutique in Bad Tölz. During a presentation the product manager introduced us to Miuccia Prada’s new line, Miu Miu.

Our boutique was known for bold, unconventional selections—quite daring for our location. Naturally, I couldn’t resist ordering this fresh and youthful collection.

IRMA: Your style is unmistakably distinctive. How do you define your talent for combining pieces?
Rosa Maria Deymann: You can’t learn individuality; it’s innate. My trained eye, coupled with a deep appreciation for quality and beauty, guides me. I rely on intuition, which I believe is a cosmic force that transcends the confines of logic.

IRMA: Tell us about the origins of your atelier. How did the idea come to life?
Rosa Maria Deymann: After closing Sigmund Bauer Mode & Home—what would now be considered a concept store—about 25 years ago, I knew I wanted to stay connected to fashion but in a different way. Letting go completely was never an option for me.

IRMA: What makes your creations so unique?
Rosa Maria Deymann: My designs don’t follow trends or dictates; they reflect what brings me joy. Each piece is wearable yet intricately detailed, with a personal touch—every garment includes a consecrated medallion inspired by Saint Catherine Labouré.
Everything is 100% handcrafted in Germany, bespoke, and infused with a sense of timeless individuality.

IRMA: Where can people find your creations, and what’s next for you?
Rosa Maria Deymann: My atelier in Bad Tölz is the heart of my collection, but I also present my work at select events. As for the future, I let my intuition guide me. New marketing platforms are already in the works, so stay tuned.
