If the weekend lasted forever, it would not be a good weekend any longer, right? We love weekends because they are a treat, they are a sure thing which comes back after every five working days and our mind, body and soul can rest, celebrate or do something special. In this weekend guide we want you to take the best things with you, always for the next one to look forward to or maybe for in between weekends.
WEAR SOMETHING DIFFERENT
If you wear heels all week, go for flats. Change your style into comfortable, chic leisure wear or go into an outdoor experience, well dressed for the sport you are doing, whether it’s rafting, hiking or crosscountry running. The way you dress will make you feel different.
BUY A NEW COOK BOOK
Right in time for the weekend, treat your taste buds to a different style. Why not just different bread spreads or Turkish delights, of course homemade with authentic, seasonal ingredients. My favourite cook book at the moment is Jack’s Wife Freda: Cooking From New York’s West Village, which brings me right back to one of my favourite restaurants in New York.
CLEAN YOURSELF AND YOUR HOME
To be honest, I am not a big fan of a full body detox. Therefore I choose a mini detox, starting Friday after a healthy lunch until Saturday morning. Friday night I just drink bone broth (see here for a recipe) and I start Saturday with a healthy breakfast. I assure you that the rest of the weekend will be a healthy one and your body will get an ultimate cleanse without too much stress. Do the same with your house (of course not on the same weekend), for example with something quick but essential like cleaning your shower. Why? Cleaning your showerhead can be done easily and is important from time to time, just like your taps in the kitchen and bathroom as clear water gets right into your system. You just need a simple cleaning essence and the ability to take things apart and put them back together. Unscrew your taps and soak them in household vinegar overnight.
TREAT YOUR MIND
The weekend is an excellent opportunity to use your mind to improve your body. Changing the way you think and taking charge of what occupies your mind can improve your physical health and well-being. For example, take the time to meditate, which can help against the harmful effects of stress on your body. Build mental strength and learn how to train your brain to help your body perform at its peak. And how about watching a funny movie? The positive effects of laughter are plentiful, decreasing stress hormones, increasing “good” cholesterol and even reducing artery inflammation.
BE CREATIVE
Whether you are working in your garden, planting a herbal pot on your balcony or designing a wedding invitation for your best friend, make sure you are creating something. Everyone has a creative talent, try to find yours and if you really think you have none, go and play with your kids and learn from them. If you don’t have kids, borrow one from your friend and treat them to a museum workshop. Both of you will come out with a rich mind and joyful smile. Creation truly makes you happy.
CHANGE
…to a non-toxic beauty routine and find true beauty. Buy the book Not just a pretty face and learn all about clean beauty. Find a make-up shop that sells products like this and make an appointment for a new make-up and skin care strategy. You will feel great!
GET FLOWERS INTO YOUR HOUSE
Flowers are a treat and you can never have too many. I love to visit nurseries, flower shops and markets to get inspired by different flowers, colours and scents. Make it your Saturday morning to do list first and get yourself a nice bouquet. If you have a garden, plant seeds in the spring and harvest your homemade flowers in summer. It’s lots of fun and very economical.
Gardening is a relaxing weekend activity (sandals by Hermès).
