Put your hat on

Collage-hats

PARIS: I never liked hats. They seem to bother me when going out of the house. At weddings I thought they make you look old and cover your entire face. And I always thought that a hat will ruin your outfit as it is a very dominant accessory sitting right at the crown of your head.

All this has changed, especially when I found out that a hat is a very useful item to wear against the sun in summer and for rain protection whenever you go for a walk or take a ride on your bike. No more umbrellas needed and when you no longer need them, most of them can be rolled up and put in a bag.

What I like about the latest hats is that they are no longer statement pieces, just thinking of the fascinators done by the talented Mr. Philip Treacy, which of course are pieces of art in and of themselves but become too much of a statement, at least for my taste.

Hats this season are plain, elegant and simply cool. Their shape is classy, the materials clear and structured and whether they are made out of straw for the beach or fine felt for the city, their shape flatters your face and simply makes you look very good.

IRMA’S TIP: Get a hat in a colour that matches and flatters your hair and skin colour. Make sure the fitting is perfect. The hat should fit your head so that your eyes can be seen and the arch of your brows is still visible.
