We are in love with this simple, yet very special holiday home by the architecture group theAdresses. If you think holiday homes are full of chores, you haven’t experienced a summer of true privacy by your own pool, long lunches whenever you like and the interior inspiration you get on holiday.
We caught up with Ludovic Beun, one of the founders with Bert Jeuris of The Madeira Collection, a unique collection of vintage Madeira wines.
TheAddresses was founded by the two in 2021. They wanted to share their long-standing and growing love for Portugal with friends and guests who share their passion.
IRMA: What is the concept behind the hospitality brand theAddresses ?
LUDOVIC BEUN: Enjoy the privacy of your own unique architectural holiday home but with the perks of the best boutique hotel.
We want you to feel the local way of living by having a home away from home.
IRMA: After “Casa Um”, “Casa Dois” and “Casa Três”, theAddresses is now launching its fourth guesthouse in the Algarve, what are the main criteria you look for in new projects?
LUDOVIC BEUN: Location and uniqueness of the building. We want a premium location (being on the beach, on the countryside or in the historical centre) but also an authentic location (no compounds or holiday villages). And our building needs to tell a certain history of this region (fishermen’s house, merchants house, a shepherd’s house, etc…)
IRMA: How do you think the Algarve will be developing in hospitality in the next years?
LUDOVIC BEUN: We think there will be even more a focus on intimate small high-quality projects like ours, and less big resorts.
IRMA: What is to your option the benefit of spending a summer holiday in a private home ?
LUDOVIC BEUN: With the Addresses you have the privacy and independent feel of a private home (eat/sleep/swim/play your music/stay up/… whenever you want), but with all the perks of the better boutique hotel (WhatsApp our receptionist for massages/restaurant reservations/boat charters/local suggestions/…)
IRMA: What can you do in the region?
LUDOVIC BEUN: What can’t you do in the region? Culture, hiking, mountain biking, discover secluded little islands or coves, relax at the beach, go jogging between the wild flamingo’s, enjoy the gastronomic simplicity of Eastern Algarve, etc…
IRMA: How does a day well spend looks like at Casa Quatro?
LUDOVIC BEUN: First have breakfast on one of the roof terraces in the morning sun, with freshly squeezes orange juice (Algarve is full of orange trees)
Then read your newspaper in the square around the corner and stroll to the local market where you can find all the finest things the Algarve has to offer (including the best tuna we have ever found in a market).
After lunch (with some selected wines from our wine fridge) in the shady open-air kitchen, take a little siesta or have a massage in the privacy of your room (arranged by Mario), dive into the pool to recover and then head to the beach for that typical late afternoon chill-out vibe. Afterwards, choose a local cantina for a great dinner.
Back at Casa Quatro, head up to the roof to explore the star-studded sky (did you know that Portugal is one of the best places to see an incredible amount of stars).
IRMA: Can you rent Casa Quatro all year round?
LUDOVIC BEUN: Yes, you can. Winters in Algarve can be lovely warm during the day and The house has a lovely doublesided fireplace for the colder nights.
