ENGADIN: Let’s start from the beginning when St. Moritz first became the hot spot of sports and society in 1864. Whether it is skiing, horseback riding, ice-skating or hiking just to name a view activities. The British created the Cresta Run and a Club founded by devotees of tobogganing who adopted a head-first technique of racing down an icy run, as opposed to the feet-first and somewhat faster luge race.
Today I would like to focus on the many possibilities of having a good time outdoors in this stunning landscape with 322 sunny days a year.
Of course St. Moritz will always be a place where you can have a magnificent time even when you don’t practice any sports. Just imagine the ART Masters in summer, the many cultural aspects and artist who come to the top of the world to perform and entertain.
But I came here to really enjoy some active days. The perfect location for my stay seemed to me the Kempinski Grand Hotel des Bains, right across the Signal-Bahn that takes you up to Corviglia, located between the two beautiful lakes St. Moritzersee and Champèrsee . In front of the Hotel is a 80km long cross-country run, starting in Maloja or you can do ski-kiting on Lake Silvaplana.
The atmosphere at the Hotel Kempinski is sportive and the boys who do the Skiservice have a tip or two about where to ski and how to get the ultimate experience nature has to offer.
Staying at a hotel with a location like that helps you to make the most out of your days. When you come back I from your outdoor activities I suggest a massage at the spa or maybe a five o’clock tea at the hotel.
I can only recommend this very elegant, but sporty retreat. You will get back home fully charged with energy, oxygen and lots of good intention to lead a sportive life.
