Now this really is an extremely unusual way of looking at an artist’s work, which is usually mostly seen in a gallery or museum.
This time it’s different and you can be part of it. The British visual artist David Shrigley collaborated this year with Maison Ruinart, who welcomes every year a different artist collaboration. During the Gallery Weekend Berlin from September 16 to 19, Shrigley will be exhibiting a work of art in the most unconventional yet typical Berlin locations. The idea fits the bizarre and uncompromising humour of the artist.
The sujet of his work for the collaboration with Ruinart has of course something in common with the art of Champagne making. Shrigley got all his inspiration from several visits to the cellars in Reims, the crayéres and the vineyards, as well as the production facilities.
You immediately get an idea of the entire production process, including the people who work at the maison, the daily changes in the environment and the conversation about nature and the winemaking process. With his special sense of humour, Shrigley successfully spreads an awareness of this concept, which is evident in his selected works of neon lights, drawings, and sculptures.
The Currywurstbude, a Späti and a Kiosk at Ku`damm are a few of the six selected places where you can view his work during Gallery Weekend Berlin.
.
You can explore the exhibition sites by walking from A to B, or taking a Rikscha, which includes the indulgence of a Picnic basket by Michelin star chef Dalad Kambhu and of course a bottle of champagne (40 Euro. Cash only, please).
