When I was asked to illustrate IRMA wearing the new Miu Lady bag for the exclusive opening of the new Miu Miu boutique at the department store Oberpollinger in Munich I thought of everything that I had always associated with Miu Miu.
The brand was created in 1993 from the independent and unconventional spirit of Miuccia Prada to target a younger line of the main house Prada.
Their first shop was in Via della Spiga in Milan and it was tiny, but your heart beat went up when you saw Miuccia’s vision of raw elegance with a youthful, maverick and carefree attitude of a young girl. Which was everything cool, artsy, slightly a bit off, inspired by vintage finds from all over the world in a playful twist to make it look chic.
Back in my studio I started scribbling the Miu Miu girl who kind of grew up with us, me.
An individual mind, boundless creativity and femininity. Someone who embodies the independent spirit of an audacious young lady, curious and art inspired.
I wanted to show all these aspects in my art work for Miu Miu. And of course IRMA had to hold a signature Miu Lady bag, which shows traditional craftsmanship and a mix of precious materials, both of which are integral elements to Miu Miu’s handwriting, like colourful gemstones, baroque and part Western styling in combination with the fine madras leather and soft calfskin.
First, I picked my favourite look from the current collection, inspired by the polka dot pattern I choose a long dress in a 30s inspired cut; I loved to combine the baroque satin mules with a giant pink bow. The little red chiffon scarf is perfect to play with and IRMA uses it to bring her hair kind of into order.
