PORTOFINO: A couple of weekends ago, Dolce & Gabbana showed their Alta Moda collection for the first time in the privacy of their house on the coast of Positano. A perfect setting for a lush summer garden party of a very special kind and the most suitable frame for their Haute Couture fashion where almost all models had stunning hair jewels and the most outstanding creations of chandelier earrings matching their voluptuous gowns.
I immediately had to think of the painting Girl with a Pearl Earring by Dutch master Johannes Vermeer, who made a statement by painting a drop of white pearl color on the ear of a young girl wearing an exotic garment in the 17th century, which at the time being was a visual novelty.
The Dolce & Gabbana collection exaggerated their voluptuous dresses, royal materials and as said played and enhanced as well the jewellery which made you look twice.
One thing is sure, the chandelier creations made the party swing, often their proportions were overly exaggerated in balance to the elegant faces of the models and they seemed to be competing with the material and proportion of the dresses but at the same time we agree that chandeliers are a must, not only for a garden party along the Ligurian coast but will uplift the wearer’s mood for the evening.
