6 things that inspired us at The Mandarin Oriental, Milan for our own home.

The way we look at our home has changed through the pandemic. We are more than ever aware that our home is also our retreat, our source of inspiration and our cocoon to feel well, secure and cosy. Now as we are back travelling to our favourite hotels there is nothing more inspiring than visiting an outstanding place that comes with many ideas to be inspired by for your own home.
The Mandarin Oriental in Milan has been re-furbished by the Milan based architects , Antonio Citterio + Patricia Viel.

Here are the things that captured our eye while staying at the Mandarin Oriental in Milan, an 18th century re–developed building in the heart of Milan.

Love the idea that a turntable becomes an object of use in your house. This one was designed in precious and refined leather by Ermenegildo Zegna. The guests at the Presidential Suite can play their vinyl with an exceptional sound experience, and so can you at home.

Carpet on the wall, Mandarin Oriental, Milan

Put a carpet on the wall, especially when it is designed by Gió Ponti, the Italian architect has a dedicated suite at the Mandarin which has been furnished exceptionally by his design and furniture only.

Fornasetti, Mandarin Oriental, Milan

Alike the Fornasetti suite with object, furniture, wallpaper, fabric, carpets and lightning all by Piero Fornasetti. I can imagine dedicating one room of my apartment entirely to one designer.

Mandarin Oriental, Milan

This Trompe-l’œil of a small terrace place is worth taking a closer look. The mirror at the back wall is interrupted by wooden bars which give warmth and cosiness to this patio style terrace but still keeps the illusion of space, well done.

The Premier Suite, Mandarin Oriental, Milan

The Premier Suite at the hotel is a tribute to the Milanese rationalism and to the minimalist style of which Ponti is a key forefather, as his style has been taken up by many artists since the 1950s.

Fornasetti at the Mandarin Oriental, Milan

Back to the Fornasetti suite we love the bar cabinet which is not only a visual centre piece but also a great piece of furniture for entertaining your guests in style.

Frette bedding at the Mandarin Oriental, Milan

Known for only the best materials, fabrics and embroideries FRETTE is charged with all the beddings at the hotel, finest linen and cotton with elegant stitching in tones that calm our mind.

Room bar at Mandarin Oriental, Milan

If you do not aim for a bar cabinet arrange beautiful, delicate glassware on a tray, always ready for a glass of water or a favourite cocktail at home.

Flowers at the Mandarin Oriental, Milan

We loved the flower arrangements throughout the hotel, all made freshly on a daily basis by Vincenzo D’Ascanio .
