The URSO, a former publishing house is perfectly located, in the elegant quarter of Salesas. A few minutes’ walk from Malasana and Chueca and short walking minutes from all the places you want to visit in Madrid.
The 20th century palatial building feels like a private residence that has all the facilities and luxury of a five-star hotel, just more private and exclusive.
You enter the old stairway which has been remained and simply renovated by architect Antonio Obrador, whose skill is to touch just as much as needed to give an old building a modern polish, while still leaving the beautiful charm of the past.
That is seen throughout the hotel and the light flooded rooms.
All in a soft tonality that feels right the minute you enter your room. There is a serenity the URSO simply transfers to their guest, which is also due to the extreme friendly staff.
Wander through the hotel and you will find hidden treasures.
Not only the Hydro Massage pool with warm wood walls and floors that is the perfect atmosphere for pampering after a business meeting or just a long day.
And do not miss the former library room on the first floor, lately transformed into a private dining room where I can just imagine to have your friends entertained by the restaurant`s chef Fernando Cuenllas, who is well known in town and is responsible for MEDIA RACION, that translates into half portion and is a concept of sharing fine food with your friend.
Coming back to the rooms, even a regular category feels spacious due to the high ceilings in each room. The fabrics, carpets and solid wood floorings make you feel comfortable and actually spend time in your room.
The minibar is well equipped, especially with sweet delights and other traditional Spanish goodies that might remind you of your childhood.
I suggest starting your day with a detox session in the spa´ steam room, maybe after a morning walk along the streets, or ask for a yoga matt which the staff will bring up to your room and use the lovely space for some asanas.
After a typical Spanish breakfast with a selection of local cheeses, the typical jamon with salsa and homemade bread you are ready to start your day, or just take it easy and take a second coffee in the Lobby where you will find a choice of interesting books and daily international newspapers to enjoy the morning.
You feel that there has been a lot of books, paper, and great minds around, that makes this hotel what it is.
