The Open Studio

When photographer Sima Dehghani stepped into our Munich home last summer for a shoot with KONFEKT magazine, there was an instant connection. Perhaps it was our shared Persian heritage, or simply the way we both tend to see the world—through a lens just slightly tilted, curious, and quietly observant.
I was genuinely moved by how she captured the essence of the Jasmin Khezri Collection. You know that moment when you look at photographs of your own work and think—Ah, so this is how it all comes together. Her images hold a certain stillness, almost poetic in their composition, and yet remain grounded, honest, and beautifully real.
I’m delighted to share with you a selection of her work, some of which were also featured in KONFEKT. They offer a glimpse into our home and Open Studio—where, by appointment, we welcome clients into our world of collections and illustration.

IRMA: How would you describe your visual language?
SIMA DEHGHANI: My work blurs the line between the real and the unreal, seamlessly shifting between natural and staged situations. I would say my images create a unique space where the viewer is often unsure whether the scene is a candid moment captured in real time or a carefully constructed narrative. My curiosity comes from documentary photography, and it continues to influence my visual language to this day.

IRMA: You work a lot with people in the creative field. Is there a red ribbon that runs through your work when portraying others’ creativity?
SIMA DEHGHANI: I love collaborating with other creative individuals and immersing myself in their world.

IRMA: The connection between a person and their surroundings is often very interesting and can influence how you photograph them. Do you follow this path?
SIMA DEHGHANI: Yes, a person’s environment can be very inspiring to me and sometimes it becomes the perfect setting. But when it comes to portrait stories, I often seek more detached spaces that align more closely with my own vision.

IRMA: You often photograph a person alongside objects that surround them. What is your idea behind this connection?
SIMA DEHGHANI: Objects can tell you a lot about a person.

IRMA: What was your first thought when you saw my studio?
SIMA DEHGHANI: What a wonderful little paradise. I love your colours.
