After living in Munich for most of my life, selecting my personal favorite spots was no easy task. I’ve kept it simple, sharing a list of places I frequent, which to me, make Munich truly special. Here’s a short guide:
Vintage Love
Inge Grandl is not only a beloved figure within Munich’s vintage community but also internationally recognized. Top stylists, sartorialists, and tourists alike come here to find one-of-a-kind accessories. Her philosophy? Vintage means ‘exquisite,’ originally derived from grape harvests. At Vintage Love, it translates to a love for the special and the detailed.
Alva Morgaine: A Wunderkammer for Vintage and Unique Treasures
Here, you’ll find vintage clothing, interior pieces, and accessories ranging from the 1880s to the 1970s. Take your time exploring this space, recently named one of the best shopping addresses in Munich by The New York Times.
Cat with a Hat
A small but special vintage shop offering a curated selection of clothing, sunglasses, watches, accessories, and jewelry. It’s best to call ahead with specific requests, as they’ll bring items out from their stock room just for you.
Heilig Geist Kirche
More than just a Catholic church at Viktualienmarkt, this is a place to find peace, meditate, or admire artwork like the paper bird installation “Les Colombes” by Michael Pendry.
Pas Normal Studios
Cycling is the theme here—whether as a sport, a lifestyle, or a community. We love their blousons, tops, and sunglasses. There’s so much more to discover in this unique store and café.
ORNO Café
Known for serving the best Matcha in town, this café is not your typical coffee spot. It’s a space to meet, enjoy music, and admire their custom furniture and designs.
HAY Design Munich
Organize your space with HAY’s vibrant, Danish-inspired designs. I particularly love their colorful candles and storage boxes—perfect for bringing order to both your office and life.
Soda: Curious Publications for Curious People
Soda offers a beautiful selection of books and international magazines covering design, culture, fashion, architecture, and more. It’s a perfect spot for creative inspiration, whether you’re working on a project in design, food, or fashion.
Konditorei Erbshäuser
Founded in 1875 by Munich’s master confectioner Heinrich Georg Erbshäuser, this legendary bakery created the famous Prince Regent’s Cake. I often stop by for a slice to enjoy in the nearby Englischer Garten.
Isar
I aim for a morning dip in the Isar River every day, even in winter. Though I skip on snowy or stormy days, the cold plunge remains one of Munich’s best offerings for nature lovers.
Literaturhandlung München
Dr Rachel Salamander’s bookshop is a place where history and modernity meet. Between shelves of timeless classics and contemporary authors, Jewish culture comes alive. Readings and discussions make this bookstore a vibrant hub of intellectual exchange. Those who spend time here take home more than just a book.
