PARIS: Imagine you have a wish free and are invited to the Cartier Boutique No. 23, Place Vendôme in Paris, or in whichever town you are with a Cartier boutique to pick a little something.
We thought about it , and if we could make two wishes we would get a fine, small watch or a bracelet and combine it with a cocktail ring, or maybe a pair of chandelier earrings. We like the contrast of a minuscule elegant watch on our wrist and a ring which turns heads. The Nouvelle Vague is ideal for that style, as the 70s-inspired designs of rings, bracelets, bangles, earrings and necklaces are playful and should not be taken too seriously with their colour combinations. Jewellery is something very personal because it is important how rings feels like, in which way a stone on an earring can change the complexion of your skin and of course how you combine it.
IRMA’S JEWELLERY TIPS
Do not wear a love bracelet together with your Tank Américaine or Baignoire watch. It looks good but it will probably scratch the pieces.
A perfect combination: A small watch like the Baignoire in rose gold together with a stunning cocktail ring, from the Paris Nouvelle Vague Collection with lapis lazuli and diamonds in yellow gold.
If you go for a jewellery watch, I suggest the Tank Solo (small) in rose gold and steel. Wear it alone.
When it comes to Clou and love bracelets, even if they fit very well with other pieces, Cartier still advises you to wear them alone. That way they get the full attention and keep the prestige.
Can you mix silver or white gold with yellow or rose gold? We think you can. Cartier were one of the first who started to combine steel with gold in the 80s and set a trend which is having a comeback.
When buying jewellery, do not wear coloured nail polish. A nude colour or gloss, for example Ballerina by Chanel, is better to see best how the ring matches your skin and overall look on your hand.
Choosing the right colour stone might be difficult. With stones it is like with the colours of make-up and clothes you wear. Look at the combination of skin tone and coloured stone in different light situations, sunlight, spotlight, shadows. The coloured stone that gives you the glow is definitly the right one.
Do not try to polish your watch or jewellery yourself with a fine leather or velvet cloth, instead pay Cartier a visit when you are in town, they offer a perfect service to take care and polish your jewels. They will look like new.
