MUNICH: We like the idea of giving flowers in a beautiful box. It has this certain vintage charm and it makes the bouquet almost look like a piece of jewellery. Boxes for flowers are like a frame and that is why we asked Julius Linke, founder of Blumen Company in Munich, to arrange a bouquet of seasonal flowers in a classic brown chocolate box. Blumen Company is known for its wonderful flower arrangements you can admire at the Munich flagship stores of Chanel, Dior, Pomellato, Belstaff, Tory Burch, PoloRalphLauren, to name just a few. The box is from Ludwig Beck and comes in all different sizes and colours. Read his tip for the seasons flower dos & don’ts and think of flowers in a box next time you are invited.

IRMA: Flowers in a box. What is the first thing that comes to your mind?
JULIUS LINKE: The 30s/40s come to my mind, Hollywood movies, Myrna Loy etc., elegant ladies receiving flowers from their lovers, of course every day.

IRMA: Which flowers are best to give away as presents at this time of the year?
JULIUS LINKE: Roses, orchids, amaryllis, carnation.

IRMA: Can the smell of garden roses be preserved when you keep them in a box?
JULIUS LINKE: No, not really… a scented cushion would be better.

IRMA: How do my roses last long and look great?
JULIUS LINKE: You need to make an angular cut with a sharp knife and really warm water, no draught or direct heat.

IRMA: Which flowers do you suggest for decorating my place during Christmas?
JULIUS LIENKE: Rosebud branches for the higher vases, and roses and orchids for table decoration.

IRMA: Which flowers mix best with roses?
JULIUS LINKE: Carnation, orchids, hydrangeas

IRMA: Your favourite colour combination?
JULIUS LINKE: That depends on the season. Right now all shades of red, rose, orange and pink. I love strong colours right now as the days are short and the light is dim!
